Message from Miss Marsh

As this is the last day you are officially Year 4's I just wanted to say a massive well done to you all for showing such positivity and hard work during this (very strange) year! I am proud of all of you and wish you the very best in Year 5 next year. Thank you for all the messages, photos and phonecalls over the last few months and for making the most of an unusual way of learning!

If you collected your books from school on Friday or yesterday, you will have received your memory book and a little gift from me - I hope you enjoy reading through it! If you haven't yet been to collect this, it will be waiting for you in September! Have a wonderful summer, take time to relax and get ready for next year. I can't wait to see you all around school next year. Miss Marsh

Welcome back! I hope you have had a lovely half term break and have been enjoying the sunshine! We are going to be focussing on multiplication and division again this week. Because this is a recap of something we have done quite a lot of in school, you should be able to work through these on your own using the methods we have learnt earlier in the year. 1 x 12 = 12

Any number multiplied by 0 is 0.

2 x 0 = 0

REMEMBER! When you multiply your digits move left and when you divide your digits move right.

Maths Task

Today is all about estimating! This is a really important skill as it helps you to look at your answer and check if it looks right. We use rounding to make the numbers in the calculation easier and then see if the answer we get is close to this.

For example, if I asked you to work out 1490 - 818 and you thought it was 225 you could check if your answer looks right by estimating and seeing how far off your answer is.

We do this by rounding the numbers in the calculation:

1490 to the nearest 100 is 1500

818 to the nearest 100 is 800

Now your numbers are much easier to do in your head.

1500 - 800 = 700

You can now see that your answer of 225 is very far off from 700, so you would need to have another go at the question!

Have a look through the powepoint for some more examples, then have a go at today's worksheet!

Maths Task

For your maths learning each day, we will now be going back over some of our previous learning in maths - things you have already done so far in Year 4, so you can remind yourself of what you learnt and make sure you can still use the learning we did! Because we have already covered this topic, you should be able to complete the tasks independently.

We will start with some place value work this week. Before you start, have a look at the knowledge organiser below - this will help you with all the tasks for the place value topic.

Today we are starting with rounding to the nearest 10. There is a video linked to remind you how we do this, a powerpoint to go through and then a worksheet to complete. When you have finished, the answers are also below so you can check through your work.
