Classes at Birklands Primary School are organised into year groups.
Each class is named after a local Nottinghamshire bird, as decided by the pupils:
- EYFS — Wren/Puffin/Robin
- Year 1 — Jay
- Year 1/2 — Dove
- Year 2 — Magpie
- Year 3/4 — Siskin
- Year 3/4 — Swift
- Year 3/4 — Woodpecker
- Year 5 — Nightingale
- Year 6 — Goldcrest
- Year 6 — Kingfisher
