Curriculum content | At Birklands Primary School our curriculum focus is on developing social awareness, developing globally aware children and enriching our children's vocabulary, as well as preparing them for today's and tomorrow's wider society. We incorporate inspirational people and events into our curriculum to inspire our children. Throughout our whole curriculum our children are exposed to ambitious vocabulary. Our English units of units of work have a cross-curricular focus with either History, Geography or Science. Each year group's art and DT projects also link with either History, Geography or Science. Within Maths the focus is on mastering mathematical concepts. All lessons incorporate fluency, retrieval and problem solving. | |

Safeguarding/Child protection | Birklands Primary School recognises its responsibilities for safeguarding children and protecting them from harm. Our policy applies to all staff, governors and volunteers working in the school. We have developed this policy in consultation with the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Board (N.S.C.B) and Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Board (N.C.S.C.B). | |
Anti-bullying policy | The aim of our anti-bullying policy is to clarify for students and staff that bullying is always unacceptable. We wish to encourage an environment where independence is celebrated and individuals can flourish without fear. Every student has the right to be safe and happy, and to be protected when feeling vulnerable. Health and Safety policy | The Governing Body /LGB of Birklands Primary School will meet its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and other health and safety legislation to provide safe and healthy working conditions for employees, and to ensure that their work does not adversely affect the health and safety of other people such as pupils, students, visitors and contractors. Details of how this will be done are given in this health and safety statement. The Governing Body will ensure that effective consultation takes place with all employees on health and safety matters and that individuals are consulted before allocating particular health and safety functions to them. Where necessary the Governing Body will seek specialist advice to determine the risks to health and safety in the establishment and the precautions required to deal with them. First Aid Policy | Birklands Primary school is committed to providing emergency first aid cover to deal with accidents, which occur to employees, children and all categories of visitors. To achieve this the school will: • Have a minimum of one suitably stocked first aid box in each key stage area. • At least one appointed person to take charge of first aid arrangements. • Provide information to employees, children and parents on the arrangements for first aid. • Have a procedure for managing accidents. • Review the arrangements for first aid annually. | |

Complaints policy | Birklands Primary School aim to provide an excellent education for all our children, and we believe that the Head of School and other staff work very hard to build positive relationships with all parents. However, the school is obliged to have procedures in place in case there are complaints by parents. This document sets out the school’s procedure for addressing complaints. It should be used only when informal attempts to resolve problems have been unsuccessful. If you have any concerns about the school or the education provided, please discuss the matter with your child’s class teacher at the earliest opportunity. How we are spending the funding | The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, in the 2021 to 2022 academic year, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. See attached plan | |
The impact on pupils | Our pupils are having a wider experience to sports, ie through our partnership with The Royal Ballet. Through the purchasing of equipment our pupils are able to increase their physical activity during unstructured times. Our pupils can discuss the importance of physical activity on their well-being and physical health. Staff across the school feel their knowledge in the teaching of PE is increasing. | |

Special Education Needs (SEND) Report
SEND report for the current academic year | At Birklands we pride ourselves in the support we give to children with Special Educational Needs. Provision maps are drawn up to ensure all children receive the interventions required to support their learning. Specialist teaching assistants are deployed throughout school again to support with learning. Gifted and Talented children are identified and recorded on the school register. Accessibility Plan for Disabled Pupils
Accessibility Procedure | The Birklands Primary School Accessibility Plan has been developed and drawn up based upon information supplied by the Local Authority. MAT, and consultations with pupils, parents, staff and governors of the school. The document will be used to advise other school planning documents and policies and will be reported upon annually in respect of progress and outcomes. The intention is to provide a projected plan for a three-year period ahead of the next review date. Please find attached our Accessibility Plan. |
