'Rain before Rainbow's'

Today's tasks:
In this story, the author uses weather and the environment as a metaphor for feelings and emotions. For example “the wind will start blowing and tall waves will crash” makes me think of fears and worries. When we are afraid, it can sometimes feel like we are battling against something strong and powerful like “tall waves”.
- Watch this video to remind yourself about similes and metaphors and take the quiz (on the same page as the video). For each emotion below, think about how it makes you feel and write a simile or metaphor to describe it.
- Happy-
- Excited-
- Calm-
- Worried-
- Angry-
- Upset-
E.g. Calm- A feather floating in the gentle breeze
- If you put all of the similes and metaphors together, you will have a poem all about feelings and emotions. I would love to share it on your class page if you send it to mgoodwin@birklandsschool.co.uk

Today and tomorrow I will be putting your work straight onto here.Today's English is below, and each week I will upload some books for you to read on this reading page.

'Rain before Rainbow's'
Today and tomorrow we will be focussing on a book all about optimism and how brighter, happier things are just around the corner, even when we are feeling down and dreary. I think this is an important message to keep us positive in these strange times.
You can read the book here or listen to it being read here.
Today's tasks:
1. Read/ listen to the story and write any words that need clarifying like we do in class. You are going to find out what those words mean (by using the other words around it, asking a grown up, using a dictionary/ online) to create a glossary.
E.g. Glossary:
- Duel- a fight or battle between two people/ things.
- Courageous- brave
2. In this story, the author uses weather as a metaphor for thoughts and feelings. Re- read the story and think about how the character is feeling at the different weather points. Choose one of the pictures from the story below and add thought bubbles to show how the characters are feeling at that point. (You could have a go at drawing the picture or just writing your ideas in thought bubbles on paper).
