Autumn 2 Work

WC 13.12.21 - DT Week

This week we have had a Christmas theme in English and we have been looking at the Grinch. We have been making inferences and reading decodable sentences to retrieve information. In Maths we have continued with our Shape topic. We have been looking for 3D shapes in the environment, sorting 3D shapes into ones that can roll and stack, and looking at repeating patterns. This week we had our DT week linked to our History theme, looking at Mansfield Shoe Co. We have design a pair of socks thinking about the purpose of the product and who the target audience would be. We then practiced our sewing skills and made a pair of socks.

WC 6.12.21 - History Week

This week we have continued to look at our Traditional Tale 'Cinderella' by Susanna Davidson. In English we have been writing Thank you notes to The Fairy God Mother from Cinderella. In Maths we have continued with our Shape topic. We have been sorting 2D shapes, naming 3D shapes and looking at the proprieties of 3D shapes. This week we have continued with our History, looking at Mansfield Shoe Co. We have placed events in order on timeline, ordered shoes from oldest to newest, and thought about what it would have been like to work in the shoe factory.

WC 29.11.21 - Art Week

This week we have continued to look at our Traditional Tale 'Cinderella' by Susanna Davidson. In English we have been making inferences, sequencing the story, looking at WAGOLLS of Thank you notes and planned what we will put in our writing. In Maths we have moved onto Shape. We have been name 2D shapes and used mathematical language to describe 2D shapes. This week we have had an Art week linked to our History topic. We have been thinking about local industries e.g. Shoe Co and Metal Box. We have found out about the artist L.S.Lowry and gave our opinions on his industrial work. We practiced the skills of lines, shape and tone, then used these skills to create an image of a factory.

WC 22.11.21 - History Week (Shoe Co)

This week we have looked at our Traditional Tale 'Cinderella' by Susanna Davidson. In English we have been thinking about what a traditional tale is and how many other tales can we think of. We have also made associations form the front cover and have read decodable words. In Maths we have continued to look at subtraction involving money. We have been finding change and missing amounts as well as solving problems. This week we have continued with our History topic of 'What impact did industries have on our local area?'. We have been finding out about Shoe Co (a shoe factory that was in Mansfield). We have asked questions about an image, and visited Mansfield Museum to find out more about local industries that used to be in Mansfield. We also got to design and make our own pair of shoes.

WC 15.11.21 - History Week (Mining)

This week we has been assessment week. Everyone has blown me away by showing me what they can remember about their learning and well as being resilient. Well done Dove Class! This week we have continued our History topic of 'What impact did industries have on our local area?'. We have continued finding out about mining. We have completed timelines, found out about the role of women in the mine, strikes, and made comparisons of Mining jobs and jobs today.

WC 8.11.21 - History Week (Mining)

This week we have looked continued to look at our text called 'The Coal Thief' by Alane Adams. In English we have retrieved information, given our opinions om the text and we have been writing a setting description of a mine. In Maths we have continued to look at subtraction using different methods e.g part whole models and bar models. This week we have started our History topic of 'What impact did industries have on our local area?'. We have been finding out about mining around Mansfield. We have asked questions about an image, found out about the role of a miner and children. Mr Cox also visited us as a Miner and answered our questions.

WC 1.11.21 - RE Week

This week we have looked at a new text called 'The Coal Thief' by Alane Adams. In English we have made associations and predictions, read decodable words linking to the text and sequenced the story. In Maths we have been looking at subtraction using Now and then stories, crossing out and number lines. This week we have had a RE week thinking about people who inspire us and the qualities of good leaders.
