Autumn 1 Work

WC 18.10.21 - Science Week (Seasonal Change)

This week we have continued to look at our text, 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' by Jon Scieszka. In English we have sequenced the story, made comparisons between this story and the traditional tale and we have been writing character descriptions about the Big Bad Wolf. In Maths we have been looking at money. We have been recognising coins, making amounts and finding totals. This week we have had an Science week thinking about seasonal change. We have been looking at the signs of summer and Autumn.

Everyone has worked hard this half term and I am proud of all of you. As a treat, we had a Halloween fun day and a pumpkin competition. Enjoy the week off and keep up the hard work in Autumn 2!

WC 11.10.21 - Art Week (Materials)

This week we have been looking at our new text, 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' by Jon Scieszka. In English we have made associations looking at the front cover, made predictions and inferences. In Maths we have continued with our topic of addition. Year 1 have been working with Number bonds to 10 and 20 and looking at doubles, and Year 2 have been using number bonds to 10 to solve number bonds to 100. This week we have had an Art week. We have been looking at the French artist 'Henri Matisse and his snail work. We gave our opinions on Henri's snail work, tested out techniques, planned our Art work, recreated the snail by Henri Matisse and evaluated our work.

WC 4.10.21 - Science Week (Materials)

This week we have continued looking at our text, 'The Great Paper Caper' by Oliver Jeffers. In English we made story maps and had a go at retelling the story. In Maths we have started a new topic of addition. We have used several strategies to help us solve addition e.g. counting on, number lines, part whole models and bar models. This week we have continued to look at our Science topic' 'Could I build a school out of paper?' We made predictions to our question could we build a school out of paper. We then tested different types of paper to check the strength of it standing up, we tested to see if it was waterproof to keep the rain out and we tested to see if it would withstand the wind.

WC 27.9.21 - Science Week (Materials)

This week we have continued looking at our text, 'The Great Paper Caper' by Oliver Jeffers. In English we made lots of inferences, thinking about what the characters are like and what they might be thinking or saying, we have sequenced the story and answered questions about the text. In Maths Year 1 have continued working with numbers to 50 and Year 2 have continued working with numbers to 100. This week we have continued to look at our Science topic' 'Could I build a school out of paper?' We have been looking famous inventions liked to materials. We found out that John Dunlop invented the pneumatic tyre and we tested rolling different materials as tyres. We found out Charles Macintosh invested the waterproof Mac and we tested different materials to see of they are waterproof or absorbent. We also found out that John McAdams invented "macadamisation", a method of constructing roads and we tested toy cars traveling on different surfaces.

WC 20.9.21 - Science Week (Materials)

This week we have been looking at our new text, 'The Great Paper Caper' by Oliver Jeffers. In English we made lots of inferences and predictions. In maths we have continued with our Place Value Topic. In Maths, Year 1 have progressed onto working with numbers to 50 and Year 2 have continued working with numbers to 100. This week we have started to look at our Science topic' 'Could I build a school out of paper?' We have been looking at what materials objects are made from and what are the proprieties of materials.

WC 13.9.21 - RE Week

This week we have been looking at a poem called 'Together' by Matt Goodfellow. In English we have had a go at drawing pictures of things we can hear in the poem, looked at features of List poems and as a class, made our own list poem about the Determined Doves. In maths we have continued with our Place Value Topic. Year 1 have continued working with numbers to 20 and Year 2 have been working with numbers to 100. In RE we have been looking at 'what does it mean to belong?'. We have looked at our family trees and which places we belong to, we have looked at how Christians belong and we have been to visit Angela at the church who demonstrated a baptism.

WC 6.9.21 - Settling in / PSHE Week

This week the whole school have focused on a text called 'The Dot' by Peter H Reynolds. In English we have made some inferences, predictions and had a go at writing a set of instructions. In maths we have started our Place Value Topic. Year 1 have been working with numbers to 20 and Year 2 have been recapping on numbers within 50. In topic we have been creating some art work around dots.
