Spring Term 1 2020

Happy New Year!

This term we expect every child to continue to be the best version of themselves and their behaviour to meet the high standards of Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe. Our classroom will continue to be a challenging place for children to grow as learners, where they are happy to have a go and know we learn from mistakes.

Over Spring term 1 our topic will be looking at Stories of Jesus in RE, What impact did Beatrix Potter have? in History and looking at Plants in science.

We will be exploring the books 'The Tiny Seed and Peter Rabbit'.

History Week - WC 10/2/20

This week in English we have continued looking at the book 'Peter Rabbit' by Beatrix Potter. We have been writing our own stories in the style of Beatrix Potter. In Maths we have been thinking about place value to 50. We have been comparing numbers and amounts, ordering numbers and counting in 2s and 5s. In Topic we have continued to find out about Beatrix Potter. We have looked at what inspired her to write stories and what impact she has had.

History Week - WC 3/2/20

This week in English we have continued looking at the book 'Peter Rabbit' by Beatrix Potter. We have been retrieving information, using descriptive language to describe Peter Rabbit, and using story maps to retell and plan our own stories. In Maths we have been thinking about place value to 50. We have been using tens and ones to make numbers and finding one more/ one less. In Topic we have been finding out about Beatrix Potter. We have asked questions about her, create timelines and retrieved information.

DT Week - WC 27/1/20

This week in English we have been looking at the book 'Peter Rabbit' by Beatrix Potter. We have been making inferences, and making predictions. In Maths we have been adding/ subtracting by using tens and ones. In Topic we have been thinking about nutrition. We have sorted foods into healthy and unhealthy, practiced our cutting and peeling skills to make fruit salad and vegetable soup and we have designed packaging for these.

Science Week - WC 20/1/20

This week in English we have continued to look at the book 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle. We have been looking at the key features of diaries and writing our own diaries from the view of a seed. In Maths we have been looking at doubles, adding three 1 digit numbers, and finding 10 more/ 10 less. In Topic we have been thinking about plants again. We have made comparisons between plants and trees and have been investigating the different parts of a plant.

Science Week - WC 13/1/20

This week in English we have been looking at the book 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle. We have been making inferences and retrieving information from the book. In Maths we have been looking at Subtraction to 20. In Topic we have been thinking about plants. We have been exploring garden plants, wild plants and evergreen and deciduous trees.

RE Week - WC 6/1/20

This week in English we have been exploring rhyming poems about plants. We have been identifying rhyme, looking at features of poems and writing acrostic poems in groups. In Maths we have been looking at addition to 20. In Topic we have been thinking about stories of Jesus in RE. we have looked at 'The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, Jesus and the Ten Lepers and Jesus Heals a Blind man. We have thought about the messages behind these stories. We also had an environment workshop where we investigated worms. we now know amazing facts about worms and why they are so important for recycling as they help to make compost.
