I hope this message finds you well. As we reflect on another exciting week of learning at Birklands, I wanted to share with you the wonderful activities and events that took place. Our children had a fantastic time, filled with creativity, discovery, and fun!

One of the highlights of the week was World Book Day, which was a wonderful celebration of reading and storytelling. The children enjoyed dressing up as their favorite book characters, participating in storytelling sessions, and exploring new books. A huge thank you to all of you for your hard work in creating such incredible costumes – your effort truly made the day special for the children!

In addition to World Book Day, our classes were buzzing with energy as they continue to make great strides in their learning across all subjects. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and enthusiasm, and it was a joy to see them thrive throughout the week.

Thank you again for your continued support. We look forward to more exciting learning and fun in the weeks ahead!

During half-term, Grace visited London and asked to go to Pudding Lane to see where the Great Fire of London started. It’s wonderful to see Grace showing such interest in her learning! She was very enthusiastic to share what she had seen with her class and confidently shared lots of interesting facts. Keep up the great work, Grace!

Eddie held a stall a local church coffee morning to raise money for their Uganda mission. He sold some of his and his brother's old toys, along with donated items, and raised an impressive £50.85, which he donated in full to the charity. We are so proud of him! We are told he was an excellent shopkeeper, showing great politeness to his customers and doing a fantastic job counting out their change. Well done, Eddie!

All our Year 4 pupils are giving 100% effort in preparing for their Multiplication Check in June, and we couldn't be more proud! A special shoutout to Lily, Lucy, and Lydia, who are now scoring 25/25! You're smashing it – keep up the amazing work!

Another maths star is Caleb! His commitment to improving in maths is unrivaled. He has been practising on the bus during his journey to school – what a dedicated role model! Keep up the fantastic work, Caleb!

Parents' evening is an important opportunity to strengthen the partnership between parents and teachers, ensuring that children receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally. It allows for open communication, feedback on progress, and discussions about how to best support each child's development. We are aiming for 100% of parents to attend to ensure every child’s success is fully supported.

If you have any issues with booking appointments, please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance for assistance.

I would like to take a moment to share my appreciation for the incredible dedication and loyalty of our staff. As a school, we are fortunate to have a team of educators and support staff who go above and beyond every day to create an environment where our children can thrive. Their commitment to the well-being, development, and success of each child is truly inspiring.

Our staff consistently demonstrates an unwavering commitment to not only teaching but also nurturing and guiding each child, providing a supportive and safe space where they can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Their loyalty to our school community is one of the cornerstones of the positive atmosphere that we strive to maintain.

As we continue to work together to ensure the best experience for your children, I want to express my gratitude for the hard work and dedication our staff shows each day. It is because of them that our school continues to excel, and I am deeply proud of everything they do.

Huge congratulations to Kingfisher who have 100% attendance for the second week in a row!  Mrs Allen will be in touch to let you know which day they can come to school in non-uniform.

This weeks attendance for each class;

As you can see from the chart below, our attendance data has highs and lows. Currently, attendance sits at 94.7%, which is broadly in line with the national average, but we know we can do much better than that. Let's work together to improve and aim for even higher attendance!  If you have any questions or need support with attendance please contact Mrs Hunt nhunt@birklandsschool.co.uk

Y3 and Y4 had an exciting (but rather cold!) day at Perlethorpe Outdoor Education Centre before half term. The day was full of fun outdoor activities to support our learning in both geography and science. The children enjoyed river dipping in the River Meden, searching for underwater inhabitants. Pupils used their knowledge of river features to work in teams to construct a river course in the forest using natural materials. Children also applied problem solving skills to complete orienteering tasks which involved solving clues, locating signs and using a map. It was a fabulous day off site in the great outdoors which developed so many social, scientific and geographical skills and knowledge.

Our school was transformed into a world of stories as students and staff celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as well-known book characters. From witches and wizards to fairytale favourites and superheroes, the school was filled with imagination and creativity.

Characters from popular picture books made an appearance, including Stick Man and The Gruffalo, alongside classic favourites like The BFG and Willy Wonka from Roald Dahl’s stories. Adventurers from the Land of Oz and Alice’s Wonderland added a touch of magic, while plenty of Where's Wally? characters kept everyone on their toes!

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of book-related activities, sharing their love of stories and celebrating the joy of reading.

Thank you to everyone for helping to make today such a memorable one for our children.

Just a reminder that your child has been given a token which can be exchanged for one of this year's books at Warsop library.

We would like to invite you to one of our forthcoming Mother’s Day events, which is an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for the wonderful role that mums, grandmas and other female relatives play in our children’s lives.

We will be hosting an afternoon tea on Wednesday the 26th and Thursday the 27th of March. In order to accommodate as many people as possible, we are offering two sittings per afternoon: 1:30pm – 2:15pm and 2:15pm – 3:00pm.

We very much look forward to seeing you at this event - we know that this will mean the world to our children.

You will be receiving a letter with further information about this.

This week, KS1 had a visit from Jamie from Warsop Hub. During the workshop, KS1 learnt all about the importance of exercise, sleep, staying hydrated and eating healthily. We had the chance to try out some different sport and exercise activities and learnt lots about our bodies!

Thank you all for taking the time to create your amazing potato characters – they were all brilliant! We originally planned to have one winner per corridor, but there were so many fantastic entries that it was too difficult to choose just one. So, we decided to select more winners!

Please see the winning potatoes below. The winners will soon have the chance to choose a book from our new book vending machine. Well done to everyone!

We are excited to announce that our school will be participating in Red Nose Day this year! It's a fantastic opportunity for us to come together and raise money for a great cause while having some fun. We encourage children to wear red or a red nose day theme outfit and join in with the activities planned for the day. Let's show our support and make a difference!

Last week, Year 3 were invited to meet an author at Warsop library as an early World Book Day celebration. They were so excited to meet Caryl Hart, the author of over 80 children's books, and ask her questions about being an author. During the workshop Caryl shared information about dinosaurs and read the lovely 'Meet the Dinosaurs' book. We even had a dinosaur themed sing-along and met some of the creatures from the book.
