Weekly Bulletin

~ 11th March 2022 ~

Next week will be a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. During the week, children will be involved in different experiments and investigations linked to the overarching theme. Please talk to your children about what they have been doing in school and encourage them to explore the subjects.

On Friday 18th March we will be taking part in Red Nose Day 2022.  We hope to raise money by completing a variety of challenges.  During the day we will challenging the children to work together to climb the highest mountain in the world and to walk from coast to coast!

The theme of this year's red nose day is Funny is Power.  With this in mind along with lots of joke telling (get practicing!) we will be asking children to dress up in either something funny or something red.

We believe that these challenges are worthy of a gold coin donation and don’t forget we are selling red noses from the school office for £1.50.

Thank you to everyone who has so far sent in their slips for our Mother's Day Tea. We are aware that this event was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic when some of you had already paid. Please be assured that these funds have been used to provide equipment for use in classes and has not been wasted. If you feel that you don't want to pay this year as you paid in 2020, that is your prerogative. However, please be aware that we run these events at a loss as the idea is for the children to celebrate the day with their female relatives and not as a money making exercise.

As soon as we have an idea of numbers, we will firm up dates and times for you. We appreciate this is frustrating as some of you may need to book time off work to attend. If you can get the slips back to us by Monday 14th March, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Just a reminder that you will need to pay 50p for each child attending, including your child/ren in school, not just for siblings who will be joining you.

The children have had a fantastic time this week meeting with adults who came to talk about their different careers.

Here are some quotes from the children:

“I had always wanted to work with robots, but I had never tried it so never considered it could be an actual job.”

“Careers week helped me realise I wanted to do a job in something I am passionate about because I need to enjoy my career. I love geography, so I want to be a journalist for the National Geographic."

“The inspirational speaker taught me to always stay motivated.”

We have had some amazing feedback from our visitors about the enthusiasm and interest from our children. This is a quote from one of our visitors:

"I really enjoyed the morning. I know it is about the children learning about opportunities that they can think about but for me it lifted the heart to see the enthusiasm, respect and joy that the kids had. They are a credit to themselves, the school and their parents."

"I noticed a poster you have on the wall as I walked around the groups. It had 5 values on it that you obviously want the children to work to. They included ones about learning, trying, reflecting etc. What struck me is how the children were working to that in their groups subconsciously. It was a credit to them and the school and something that will serve them well in the future."

Hopefully, we have been able to inspire them and look forward to seeing some interesting and varied career choices.

School milk is available free in school to all children under 5 and those who qualify for Free School Meals. We work with our partner, Cool Milk, who provide the milk to us. This week, we have made the decision to move away from the cartons that the children usually receive, and replace them with washable cups and large milk containers. Hopefully, this will help to reduce the plastic waste produced in school. If you need more information about Cool Milk then please follow this link to their website https://www.coolmilk.com/parents/.

We are happy to receive payments via the school bank account but can you please ensure that an appropriate reference is included i.e. Joe Bloggs PGL payment.

Please talk to your children about the importance of road safety. Several times recently, we have been informed of children either being in the road on scooters or running into the road. The parking situation around schools means that the roads can get congested at the beginning and end of the school day. Closely parked cars mean that drivers may not see children until it is too late.

This is talked about in school but discussing at home as well will hopefully teach the children to be safe when out and about in our community.

Children aged 5 to 11 years who are in a clinical risk group or who live with someone who is immunosuppressed can get the COVID-19 vaccine, in line with advice set out by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). Eligible children include those with diabetes, immunosuppression, learning disabilities, and other conditions as outlined by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in the Green Book.

Further information is available in the guide for parents of children aged 5 to 11 years published by UKHSA.
