Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the final term of the school year! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached this point in the year, and what a busy and exciting term we have ahead of us!
This final stretch is always one of my favourites – full of opportunities to celebrate how far the children have come, while also preparing them for their next steps. From sports day and class trips to end-of-year performances and special celebration assemblies, there is so much to look forward to.
While the calendar is certainly packed, we remain firmly focused on learning. Staff are working hard to ensure that every child continues to make strong progress, and we’re committed to finishing the year with the same high standards and enthusiasm that we started with.
For our oldest pupils, the journey towards transition to secondary school is well underway. We will be supporting them every step of the way to ensure they feel confident and ready for the exciting new chapter ahead. Likewise, for children moving into new year groups, we’re preparing carefully to help them make a smooth and happy start in September.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Let’s make this final term a fantastic one, full of achievement, growth and joyful memories.
Attendance Update
Unfortunately, our overall attendance figures have taken a bit of a dip recently, largely due to a number of chicken pox cases and term-time holidays. While we completely understand that some absences are unavoidable, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind families of the importance of good attendance wherever possible. Every day in school really does make a difference to your child’s learning and development.
That said, we’re delighted to give a big well done to Nightingale Class, who achieved an impressive 98% attendance – fantastic effort! Keep it up! Miss Watson will let you know which day for your non-uniform reward.
Let’s work together to finish the term strong and support every child in making the most of their time in school.
Thank you for your continued support.
Jack from Year 4 shared his BMX trophies in assembly this week. Jack was keen to tell everyone about 'Warsop Wheelies', where he is a member. They meet at the BMX track in Warsop on Tuesday evenings (6-8pm) and it costs £2.
There is a race this Sunday at Carr Lane park. Racing starts at 12 o'clock.
The Royal Ballet School – Our Final Performance
For the last few years, pupils from Birklands have had the amazing opportunity to work with The Royal Ballet School. Sadly, because of funding cuts, the programme has now come to an end.
Last week, Lexie and Bobbie travelled to London for their final performance — a special moment to end an unforgettable journey.
We’ve been doing ballet for four years now, and it all started with an audition in Year 3. We remember being taken to the hall feeling a bit nervous, but when we found out we’d got in, we were absolutely over the moon! Not long after, we watched a performance by dancers from The Royal Ballet School — it was so inspiring and made us even more excited to start.
This year, we took our final bow and graduated from the programme. We’re so proud of everything we’ve achieved and so grateful for this incredible experience. We’ll never forget it.
Following the letter explaining the changes to school reports please make a note of the dates below.
24th and 25th June - booking details to follow.
Graduation Week - 14th - 18th July
Two weeks ago, most of year 6 ventured to residential (Dearne valley) for three days and two nights. I interviewed some pupils who were willing to share their experience. Elsie says that the activities were astonishing, and she wishes she could relive the experience and vast joy. Shayla says she loved the rock wall because she nearly made it to the top and she got to float down like a fairy. She wants to do it again due to the kind instructors. Finley really enjoyed the high ropes, he found them thrilling and he wishes he could go on it again. Kian loved the leap of faith because you had to climb up high, plus it was a daring experience. From what I’ve seen and heard, residential was amazing and it could not have been better. It also seems like an experience to make the most of before you have to leave. Also, Maria thinks that the orienteering was super fun and she’d love to do it again, plus, the staff were amazing. Everyone thought it was an amazing event for everyone and loads of people hope to do something like it again.

Smoothie Bike Fun with Aspens!
This week, we were thrilled to welcome Aspens Catering to Birklands for a special visit – and they brought something very exciting with them… a smoothie bike!
The children had a fantastic time pedalling their way to a healthy treat, using the bike-powered blender to create delicious fruit smoothies. It was a brilliant mix of fun, fitness and food education – helping pupils learn about healthy eating in a hands-on and memorable way.
A big thank you to Aspens for bringing such an energetic and engaging experience to our school!
We are currently reviewing our PE kit policy to ensure that all children are wearing the correct kit, they feel comfortable and confident, and they are representing our school with pride during physical activities. As part of this, we would like to hear your views. Your feedback will help us understand how well the current arrangements are working for families and whether any improvements or clarifications are needed.
Please take a few moments to complete our short questionnaire. Your thoughts are really important to us and will help us make sure our expectations are clear, manageable and support the children to feel part of our school community.
Thank you for your continued support.
Fantastic Writing Progress in Year 5!
We are incredibly proud of the amazing progress two Year 5 boys have made with their writing since the start of the year. Through hard work, determination and a growing confidence in their abilities, both pupils have shown remarkable improvement in their sentence structure, vocabulary and overall creativity. Their enthusiasm for writing has flourished and their recent work is a true testament to their dedication. Well done, boys — we can’t wait to see where your writing takes you next!
Super Storytelling in Reception!
We are so proud of Nellie in Reception, who created her very own story map inspired by the book Emma Jane’s Aeroplane. After listening to the story, Nellie carefully thought about the different places Emma Jane visited and the characters she met along the way. She then used her imagination to draw her own version of the journey, complete with pictures and labels.
Nellie’s story map showed a fantastic understanding of the story structure and was full of creativity. Well done, Nellie — what a brilliant young storyteller you are!
Please not an upcoming change to the dinner menu, on 19th June.
