~ May 2022 ~

We are now settled into the Summer term as this academic year continues to fly by!

This week, our Year 6 children will be taking their SAT tests. The teachers have worked tirelessly to make sure that our pupils are as prepared as they can be, given that they, like all the other children, have had a very unsettled two years. We are confident that they will all do their very best. This is their time to shine.

If your child is in year 6, we will be welcoming the children into school from 8.15am and providing them with sausage or bacon cobs to set them up for the day. Please ensure that children are well rested and bring a filled water bottle with them.

As you are aware, everyone has been given an extra bank holiday to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. As this date falls within our school holidays, we will be taking ours on Friday 24th June. Therefore, school will be CLOSED to pupils on this day.

Mexican Day

On Thursday 19th May our school kitchen will be celebrating the food of Mexico. The menu for the day will be:

Nachos

Fajitas

Wedges

Burritos

Chilli con carne & rice

Chocolate cake

Queen's Jubilee Street Party

On Friday 20th May, we will be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee with a street party style lunch. Weather permitting, the children will be outside having a Fish & Chip lunch, followed by a Jubilee Cup Cake.

Vegetarian option and jacket potatoes are always available.

On the 13th May Mrs Lean, one of our Foundation Stage Teaching Assistants, will be leaving Birklands Primary School.

She has made the decision to pursue a different career path.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Lean for her hard-work and dedication, while working at Birklands Primary School and we wish her all the best in her new career.

We will be welcoming Mrs Blackamore into the Foundation Stage Team from the 16th May. She is a teaching assistant that the children are familiar with, as she has worked at Birklands Primary School previously.  We will be interviewing for a permanent replacement very shortly.

We continue to have complaints from our neighbours about cars being parked inconsiderately in the morning and at school pick up time.

Please ensure that you do not block drives or double park. Remember, people who live nearby also need to take children to school, go to work and get to appointments.

Do not park on the yellow zig zags outside of school. They are there to protect YOUR child.

A polite reminder that all children should be in correct uniform and PE kit at all times.

Our uniform consists of:

white shirt or white/burgundy polo shirt

burgundy cardigan/sweatshirt or fleece

For girls:

black or grey skirt, trousers or pinafore

red gingham summer dress

For boys:

black or grey trousers/shorts

Black shoes should be worn by all our children. No trainers allowed (unless it is a PE day).

We expect all children to wear black shorts or grey/black joggers and a white/burgundy t-shirt for their PE lessons. Football shirts or other sports wear is not allowed.

If hair is long enough to be tied up it should be on PE days please.

When earrings are worn in school, they must be small, round studs. No other jewellery is permitted.
