As we come to the end of another fantastic school year, we would like to wish all our pupils, families and staff a relaxing and enjoyable summer break. It’s been a year full of learning, laughter and unforgettable memories, and we are so proud of everything our children have achieved. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year – it truly makes a difference. We hope the summer brings plenty of sunshine, fun and time to recharge and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on the 1st of September, refreshed and ready for the new school year ahead.

Our talented Year 6 pupils wowed audiences with their recent performance of Moana JR, bringing the beloved Disney adventure to life with energy, confidence and heart. From the powerful solos to the lively ensemble numbers, every moment showcased the hard work and dedication that went into rehearsals. The children impressed with their acting, singing, and dancing, as they told the story of Moana’s courageous journey across the ocean to save her island. Stunning costumes, creative set pieces and a fantastic soundtrack added to the magic, leaving the audience captivated. A huge well done to all of Year 6 for their brilliant teamwork and enthusiasm—and a big thank you to the staff who supported behind the scenes. It was a performance to remember and a perfect way to celebrate the end of a wonderful primary school journey!

Year 6 celebrated the end of their primary school journey in style at their much-anticipated leavers’ party! The evening was filled with fun, laughter and plenty of dancing as the children came together to mark their final days at Birklands. With music, party games, snacks and even a visit from the ice-cream van,  it was the perfect chance for everyone to let their hair down and make more lasting memories with friends. It was a joyful and emotional evening and a fantastic way to say goodbye before moving on to new adventures in secondary school. Well done, Year 6—you’ve been amazing and we’re so proud of you all!

Well done to all the children who achieved 100% attendance during the summer term! To celebrate their fantastic commitment, they enjoyed a special treat with a visit from the ice cream van. A big congratulations also goes to those who maintained 100% attendance for the entire academic year—they each received a £5 Amazon voucher as a reward for their outstanding effort and dedication. Great job, everyone!

We have a few exciting staffing updates to share as we end the school year. Congratulations to Miss Tanner and Miss Shaw, who have successfully completed their ECT years, supported throughout by their fantastic mentor, Mrs Allen.

We also send our very best wishes to Miss Scrivener as she begins her maternity leave—we hope she enjoys every moment of this special time.

In September, we’ll be welcoming back Miss Goodwin under a new name—Mrs Roberts! We wish her all the best for her upcoming wedding and look forward to seeing her in the new school year.

Supporting Your Child’s Next Step:

As your child gets ready to move into a new school year, it's natural for both excitement and a few nerves to arise. Whether they’re starting a new class, meeting a new teacher, or settling into a different routine, transitions can feel like a big step. That’s where transition booklets come in.

How You Can Use Transition Booklets at Home

As a parent or carer, you play an essential role in helping your child feel prepared, positive, and supported. Transition booklets give you a valuable opportunity to:

Start conversations about your child’s hopes, questions, or concerns.

Reassure your child by helping them understand that change is a normal and exciting part of growing.

We encourage you to look through the booklet alongside your child, take your time, and make it a relaxed, positive experience. Together, you can turn transition into a chance for growth, discovery and renewed motivation for learning.

Lost Property Update

A big thank you to Miss Fox who has lovingly washed and sorted through the mountain of unclaimed lost property. All remaining uniform items will be donated to the Uniform Swap Shop at Warsop Town Hall, where they’ll be ready to help other families in our community.

Parking Reminder

We kindly remind all parents and carers not to park or drop children off on the yellow zig-zag lines outside school - these areas are there to keep our pupils safe, especially during the busy morning and afternoon periods. Thank you for helping us keep the area around school safe and clear.

Additional Inset Day

Please note that an additional (6th) INSET day has been added to the school calendar. School will now be closed to all pupils on Friday 13th February. This date is in addition to the INSET days already listed on our website. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Congratulations to Freya who has recently been graded as a 'purple belt' in kickboxing!

These boys recently competed in a football event at Warsop Carnival. Lenny and Jeordi have written match reports (see below).

MEDEN VALE TOURNAMENT

It kicked off and our hearts were pounding. Ten minutes in a hand ball was made by number 3. Number 10 from their team took it and the ball went over the cross bar. The keeper passed to number 3 and the striker on their team went flashing at number 3. He then blasted the ball to our striker and he had a shot, but he missed. Everybody was sad.

15 minutes later, there was a free kick from number 10 on our team outside the box and it went over the cross bar. With 1 minute left the keeper passed the ball to number 3 and he blasted it. The referee blew the whistle and it was 0-0, so it went to penalties. We took the first one and we scored, then they took it and they missed. We scored again, and they missed. We were so happy because they missed two and we scored two. After the match, we lifted the trophy like the world cup.

Lenny, Swift Class

It was a fun day and we got to the finals. We lost but we will get there and I loved Lenny celebrating with his friends and I got a medal. It was a very rainy day but it calmed down and we won one of matches and I kept slipping over in the mud and my coach did as well, but reds won it for me and after the match I went on a ride what goes really high.
