Summer Term 2
Pirates / Seasides
Yet again we’ve had a great start to the summer term and we are looking forward to another fantastic half term of learning. For this half term we have based our topic on a Pirates and Seasides.
We will start off by exploring the books ' The Pirates Next Door' by Jonny Duddle and 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch' by Ronda and David Armitage.
Seasides - WC 8th July
This week we have enjoyed looking at our new book 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch' by Ronda and David Armitage. In English we have been making inferences from characters and pictures within the story and have been retrieving information. In Maths we have been looking at Position and Direction. We can give our friends instructions of how to move somewhere using vocabulary such as left, right, quarter turn, three quarter turn, clockwise and anticlockwise. In Topic we have compared seasides now and in the past, used maps to locate UK coastlines and created charts to show data of Year 2 visits to UK seasides.
Transition Week - WC 1st July
This week have been busy visiting our new classes. We have been able to see what it is like to be a Year 3 and now know the expectations. The children have all enjoyed their time in KS2 this week and are all looking forward to being in these classes again in September !
Sports Week - WC 24th June
This week we have been very active by participating in lots of sports activities. In English we have been writing an explanation of why is it important to be healthy. In Maths we have been looking at Multiplication and Division. We have all participated in a team games event with Mr Cohen, Sports day races and Potted sports activities organised and led by the Year 6s. Everyone has been team players this week which has been lovely to see!
Pirates - WC 17th June
This week we have been completing more work on Pirates. In English we have been writing a glossary to explain pirate vocabulary. We have also been writing a diary entry as a pirate. In Maths we have been looking at Capacity, Volume and Temperature. We can read scales in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s and can compare and measure in millilitres and litres. In Topic we have designed made and evaluated our Pirates ship made in DT and have recreated some pirate artwork.
Pirates - WC 10th June
This week we have enjoyed continuing to look at our book 'The Pirates Next Door' by Jonny Duddle. In English we have been writing a letter as one of the neighbour from the book and we have been writing a recount of our visit to Southwell Minster. In Maths we have been looking at time, we can tell the time to the hour, half past, quarter past and to as well as to five minute intervals. On Thursday we were lucky enough to participate in 'Time Travelling' at Southwell Minster. This was an opportunity for pupils to investigate a living place of worship, explore architecture, artifacts, symbols, beliefs and practices; hear Bible stories and how faith is expressed today.
Pirates - WC 3rd June
This week we have enjoyed looking at our new book 'The Pirates Next Door' by Jonny Duddle. In English we have been writing instructions of how to be a pirate. In Maths we have been looking at money by counting amounts, giving change and solving two step problems. In Topic we have investigated Pirates: who were they? Who was in the crew? What was a pirate's clothing like? Who was the famous Blackbeard? We have also made treasure maps using coordinates and we have been writing the instructions to go with it.
