Summer Term 1
We’ve had a great start to the summer term and we are looking forward to another fantastic half term of learning. For this half term we have based our topic on a Habitats.
We will be exploring the books 'Leaf' by Sandra Dieckmann and 'Bog baby' by Jeanne Willis in English. We will also be looking at what animals need in order to adapt and survive in their habitats in Science.
Bog Baby - WC 20th May
This week have continued to look at our book 'Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis. In English we have been making inferences from what we have read and retrieving information in order to answer reading comprehensions. In Maths we have been looking at statistics, interpreting tally charts, pictograms and block graphs. In Science we have investigated things that are living, dead and never been alive, microhabitats, how animals and plants depend on each other in order to survive and food chains.
Bog Baby - WC 13th May
This week have looked at our new book 'Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis. It is about two girls who take a Bog Baby from his natural habitat, but unfortunately he starts to die and the girls need to return him to his home to save him. In English we have been writing wanted posters fro our own Bog Babies, describing his appearance and where you might find him. In Maths we have learning about 2D and 3D shapes, their properties and lines of symmetry. In Topic we continued to look at flight from last week and found out about the work of Amelia Earhart to create newspaper reports.
Leaf - WC 7th May
This week have continued to look at our book 'Leaf' by Sandra Dieckmann. In English we have extracted information and recalled prior knowledge of polar bears, in order to write our own non chronological reports. In Maths we have been finding fractions of amounts and shapes and solving equivalent fractions. In DT we have continued to look at flight and we have designed, made and tested kites.
Leaf - WC 29th April
This week have continued to look at our book 'Leaf' by Sandra Dieckmann. In English we have extracted information from the story to develop a visual image, used descriptive language to describe Leaf, recalled prior knowledge of polar bears and made inferences about how Leaf may be feeling or what he could be thinking. In Maths we have been using our knowledge of the four operations and number bonds to solve problems. In Topic we have looked at how a Polar bear adapts to the environment, used atlases to identify the natural habitats of animals and have created some polar bear art. We have also investigated flight and looked at the Wright Brothers and made comparisons of planes from 1903 and 2019.
Leaf - WC 23rd April
This week we have been looking at our new book 'Leaf' by Sandra Dieckmann. In English we have had a focus of inferences by looking if we can identify any clues within the book. We have anaylsed the front cover and thought about what the characters might be thinking. In Maths we have been learning about place value within 2 digit numbers. In Topic we have been retelling and thinking about the feelings within the Easter story.
