Conservation: Whose responsibility is it anyway?

We’ve had a great start to the spring term and we are looking forward to another fantastic half term of learning. For this Term we have based our topic on a whole school theme.

Dear Greenpeace - WC 25th February

This we have been looking at our new book for this Term 'Dear Greenpeace' by Simon James. This week in English we have had a focus of inferences by looking if we can identify any clues within the book. We have anaylsed the front cover and thought about what the characters might be thinking. In Maths we have been learning about time, reading clocks to the nearest fifteen minutes and five minute intervals. In Topic we have been using maps to investigate the migration of whales.

Dear Greenpeace - WC 4th March

This week we have continued to explore the book 'Dear Greenpeace' by Simon James. IN English we have looked at the key features of a letter and used these to create our own letters to Greenpeace. In Maths we have been using number bonds to 10/ 20/ 100 as well as looking at addition and subtraction of two digit numbers. In Topic we have been researching who are Greenpeace and what do they do?

This week we also celebrated World Book Day. We got to dress up as our favourite book characters, share our favourite stories with friends and have a story shared to us by a different teacher. We also got to take part in Paddington Bear activities such as making puppets, making marmalade sandwiches and using maps to locate Peru.

Dear Greenpeace - WC 11th March

Again this week we have been using the book 'Dear Greenpeace' by Simon James to draw up our final conclusions. In English we have looked at and unpicked the key features of fact files and used these to create our own about other marine animals. This week in Maths we have been finding fractions of shapes and amounts and in Topic we have been using maps to identify the ocean which are the most polluted.

Assessment Week - WC 18th March

This week has been Assessment week. The children have really impressed me with their resilience throughout all the different tests we've completed. Keep up the amazing work Year 2!

Pattan's Pumpkin - WC 25th March

This week we have been looking at our new book 'Pattan's Pumpkin' by Chitra Soundar. This week in English we have had a focus of inferences by looking if we can identify any clues within the book. We have thought about what we associate pumpkins with and thought about what the characters in the book might be thinking. In Maths we have been learning about position and direction, thinking about left, right, clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter, half and three quarter turns. In Topic we have investigating plants. We have labeled parts of a plant and looked at what each functions does as well as what do plants need to survive.

Pattan's Pumpkin - WC 1st April

This week we have continued to look at our book 'Pattan's Pumpkin' by Chitra Soundar. This week in English we have written our own version of Pattan's Pumpkin using alternative characters and vegetables . In Maths we have been learning about measures, thinking about length and heights. In Topic we have continued to investigate plants in Science and completed our shoebox gardens in DT.
