Autumn Term 1 - Superheroes
Calling all Superheroes
This Half Term our mission is to ensure all children enjoy coming to school and are settled. For this Half Terms learning we have based our topic on the interests of the children who wanted to learn about Superheroes.
Here are our weekly themes for the Next Half term:

Roald Dahl Week - wc 10th September
This week we have loved reading 'The Enormous Crocodile' by Roald Dahl. We have been busy completing different crocodile tasks such as mark making, threading and painting.
We have also enjoyed dressing up as Roald Dahl characters or in his favourite colour yellow.
Science Week - wc 17th September
This week we have loved completing our superhero science experiments in Nursery.
- We used tweezers to pull off the evil villains magnetic hair.
- We thought about what makes a superhero healthy and tried different fruits.
- We used magnets to move our superheroes along the maze.
- We had to think how to save superheroes from ice.
- We looked at which materials float and sink in order to make a superhero boat.
- We had to find out which of the copper coins the evil villains stole are magnetic.
Superkid -wc 24th September
This week we have been reading Superkid by Claire Freedman. We have thought about which super powers we would have if we were Superkid. We have been busy counting superheroes, baking superhero biscuits and making superhero masks.
Supertato - wc 1st October
This week we have been reading Supertato by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. We have been very busy in Nursery this week. We have been retelling the story using vegetables, mashing evil peas, painting with vegetables and counting potatoes. In group times, we have been busy counting spots and finding the matching numerals to unlock the vegetables. We have created our own Supertato characters as well as practicing our cutting skills.
Spiderman - wc 8th October
This week we have been learning about Spiderman. Again we have had a busy week in Nursery. We have been using spaghetti to create webs and using tweezers to collect spiders off the web. In literacy we have been focusing on our pencil control by following spider lines and copying letters. In maths we have been comparing heights and weights. We have also been making spider webs by cutting and threading and wax painting.
PJ Masks - wc 15th October
This week we have loved learning about PJ Masks. In literacy we have been focusing on our pencil control by following PJ Mask lines and copying letters. We have also been identifying initial phonemes. In maths we have been making repeating patterns and recognising 2D shapes. We have also been practicing our cutting and threading skills.
Paw Patrol / Real Life Heroes - wc 22nd October
We have been very busy in Nursery this week and have loved learning about Paw Patrol and the emergency services. We have been lucky enough to have a visit from the police who let us look and play in their police car. We have been busy investigating our own crime scene in Nursery, we found a footprint, glasses and a sticker from Mrs Smith. We looked carefully at these clues to work out who the suspects could be. We have also been taking fingerprints in the messy play area, using tweezers to save people from the fires and using bottles in the water tray to put the fires out.
Roald Dahl Day
We will be celebrating Roald Dahl Day on Wednesday 12th September. We are asking children to come dressed up as a character from a Roald Dahl story or to wear his favourite colour, which was yellow. We will be looking at the Roald Dahl book: The Enormous Crocodile.
Coffee morning / Stay & Play session
On Friday 28th September 10.45am - 11.45am Parents / Carers are invited to come along to our coffee morning session where we have planned a superhero crafts morning.
Superhero Dress up day
We will be having a Superhero dress up day on Friday 26th October, where the children can come dressed up as their favourite Superhero.
